The redevelopment of the Catholic Youth Ministry (CYM) Sports Handbook began during the 2024–2025 academic year, with provisional implementation set for August 1, 2025. This initiative reflects a collaborative effort, with feedback from previous editions, insights from CYM Sports participants and administrators, roundtable discussions, and comprehensive research.
This provisional handbook serves as the foundational resource for by-laws, policies, and sport-specific rules governing CYM Sports. Together, these elements establish the minimum standards and requirements for all CYM-sanctioned athletic activities.
In certain instances, policies adopted by affiliated programs may be more comprehensive or restrictive than those of the CYM Sports Office or other local parishes, schools, or external governing organizations (e.g., NFHS, AAU, US Youth Soccer). When determining compliance with CYM Sports by-laws, policies, and procedures, individuals are encouraged to consult this handbook in conjunction with the guidelines of relevant governing bodies to determine the extent of a policy. For clarifications and interpretations, inquiries may be directed to the CYM Sports Office.
This handbook governs all athletic programming, both boys’ and girls’ sports, within the Diocese of Wilmington and applies to all participants and affiliated members of the CYM Sports Program.
